With few means and a lot of will, Mestres has been created in 2004 in Brazil. The first big step of the brand was the partnership with the NGO Clube de Mães do Brasil in São Paulo. Mestres entitled this organization to manufacture all Mestres products. Mestres propose to any capoeiristas, or lovers of capoeira quality pants, tshirts and hoodies with a fair trade philosophy. Mestres won the 2005 award Ekilibre in France for "best fair trade project" given by french government.
